2013 Classlist
DIV G - CM/AR PERFORMANCE (Traditional/Classic)
2013 TOPSA - TRADITIONAL/CLASSIC - Performance Classlist – Divs. D & G
Performance Judges Please Note: TOPSA Performance is not based on any one specific rulebook. Many entrants use the breed association rules of the breed their model represents when they tack up for performance classes. There are some classes where entrants are asked to provide the source they use for their set-up (some examples: Reining, Western Riding, etc.)
Before you disqualify an entry for using or not using a piece of equipment such as Chaps, Leg Wraps, Boots, etc., please be certain they are required for that breed in that particular class. Remember, AQHA, APHA, ApHA, USEF, and other assocs. do not always require the same equipment. If you are not certain, the entry should not be DQ’d.
(Example: under AHQA and APHA rules, Chaps are considered OPTIONAL equipment in western classes. AQHA prohibits protective boots, leg wraps and bandages in Western Riding; under APHA leg wraps and/or boots are Optional at the rider’s discretion in Western Riding.)
Performance Showers and Judges Please Read the Following Before Entering Photos or Judging:
-- Please READ the requirements for each class carefully and the following requirements
and guidelines.
-- One Photo Per Horse Per Class (unless specifically stated in class description) – so pick your best one!
-- A description of what the entry is doing is required in all classses.
-- All Performance Classes require appropriate TACK for all classes. The only “ridden” classes that do
not require tack (saddles, blankets, pads, etc.) are listed as “Bareback” classes and they do require
a Bridle.
*** -- Photos depicting Championship Presentations, Ribbon Presentations, Waiting for Class to Start,
etc., are to be shown only in Class 53, Other Scenes.
-- In ALL Pleasure and Equitation classes, horses must be performing a gait or command that
would be asked for in an actual class.
-- Reining, Working Cow Horse, Western & English Riding Classes – You must identify the Source
(AQHA, APHA, PtHA, APHC, etc.) of the Pattern being run, and what element/maneuver
the horse is performing. (Example for a horse that is performing a rollback: AQHA
Pattern #1, Element #1 – run at full speed to the far end of the arena past the end marker
and do a left rollback – no hesitation.)
-- TOPSA defines STOCK as: Horses, Cattle/Steers, Goats, and Sheep.
-- Equitation Classes – Equitation is judged on the Rider’s ability to control their horse and their position in
the saddle. It is NOT a pleasure class. Most equitation classes have the entrants perform as a group
on the rail, and also have them perform individual pattern work that is posted prior to the class. Entries
in Equitation may depict either; but an explanation of what the entry is doing is required.
*** -- Chaps are OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT in Western Performance Classes. Entries being shown with
rider dolls without chaps shall NOT be disqualified..
*** -- Roadster Horse or Pony Entries – ALL Roadster entries are to be shown in Class #43 –
Other Harness
Hunter Hack Entries - We do not have a class for these entries. The Hunter Hack Class is actually judged on the horses performance both on the flat and over two low fences. In 2011, we tried a class that required each entry to have multiple photos, and while there were adequate entries; the judges found the class very confusing. In 2012 we decided to not have any class that requires multiple entries. However, entries showing in Huntseat tack, may of course, show in English Pleasure. Entries being shown over fences, may of course, show in the appropriate over fence class.
-- For Other English Performance, Other Western Performance, and Other Performance – "Performance"
means any Horse Show or Horse event that is judged or timed. NO RACING, STEEPLECHASE
OR POINT-TO-POINT ENTRIES. .
-- Photos that do not show an entry doing a Horse Show Event that is judged and/or timed, should be
entered in the appropriate Scene or Sporting/Event Class.
*** -- MINIATURE HORSE EXHIBITORS NOTE: Miniature Horses being shown in Performance are
to show In Classes 40 and 46 ONLY!

entered in Class 46, limit of One Photo per Mini.
-- Mini Horses being show in Pleasure Driving may show in Class 40, limit of One Photo per Mini.
***-- Mules are to be shown in “OTHER” Horse Breed Classes and may NOT cross-enter.
